IFITT (International Federation for IT and Travel & Tourism, www.ifitt.org) is an international initiative promoting the discussion and application of information and communication technologies in tourism. IFITT has members from all sections of tourism as well as from research and the IT industry. IFITT is organising the ENTER conference, one of the most important conferences in the area IT & tourism. Since 2001 Wolfram Höpken is member of the board of directors, from 2001 to 2013 and 2017-2019 in the position of the commercial director and from 2006 to 2013 and 2017-2019 as vice-president. Within IFITT Wolfram Höpken has founded a special interest group for the subject “harmonisation intourism” (see project IFITT RMSIG).

HarmoNET President

HarmoNET (www.harmonet.org) is an international initiative, emerged from the Harmonise and Harmo-TEN project, aiming at harmonising electronic markets in tourism. Objective of the HarmoNET initiative is the extension and maintenance of the harmonise solution and the development of a world-wide network of harmonise users. Wolfram Höpken is co-founder and president of the HarmoNET initiative. He is especially responsible for the maintenance and extension of the harmonise tourism ontology.

2005 – 2008 the Swarovski Crystal Web Award has been executed annually as part of the eTourism Day Austria. Wolfram Höpken was organiser of the Swarovski Crystal Web Award and member of the jury for evaluating tourism websites.

ANET (Austrian Network for eTourism)

Subject/Function

The Austrian Network for eTourism was an alliance of several competence centres in the area of eTourism. The ANET united over 80 partners from industry and research and focussed on an international cross-linkage. The ANET executed projects together with partners from industry and research and organised Austrian-wide events to facilitate the knowledge transfer (e.g. the eTourism Day Austria). In his function as director of the ECCA Wolfram Höpken represented one of the shareholders of the ANET.
